Meet Tonya: The Heart Behind Gr8 Buckeye Food

Food for the Heart

“When faith, family, food, and fellowship come together, hearts are nourished, relationships grow stronger, and God’s love is shared—one meal at a time.”

Introduction

Around every table is an opportunity to encourage someone, strengthen relationships, and create memories that last a lifetime. Whether you’re serving a holiday feast or a simple weeknight dinner, never underestimate how God can use a shared meal to touch a heart. Sometimes the greatest nourishment isn’t what’s on the plate—it’s the love, kindness, laughter, and fellowship that surround it.

Meet the Heart Behind Gr8 Buckeye Food

Welcome! I’m Tonya, a loving wife, devoted mom, and follower of the Most High God. I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, and I’m honored to welcome you to Gr8 Buckeye Food.

This blog was created from a lifelong passion for bringing people together through faith, family, food, and fellowship. Those four values are the foundation of my life and the reason Gr8 Buckeye Food exists.

Every day I strive to keep my priorities in the proper order: God first, family second, work third, and fun and hobbies last. My greatest joy is sharing God’s love wherever I go, and one of my favorite ways to do that is around a table filled with good food and even better conversation.

One of the blessings I’ve learned throughout life is that every person deserves kindness and respect. I sincerely respect everyone’s religious choices because I believe God gives each of us the beautiful gift of free will. My goal has never been to persuade or pressure anyone, but simply to share the hope, peace, and love I’ve found through my personal relationship with Him while honoring the freedom of others to choose their own path.

If we ever meet, you’ll probably be greeted with a warm smile, a hug, and maybe even notice a flower in my hair. That flower reminds me of something I try to live every day: give people their flowers while they’re living. Tell them you love them. Thank them. Encourage them. Let them know they matter while they can still hear your words.

Outside the kitchen, I enjoy studying the Bible, spending time with family and friends, traveling to discover great food, camping in our RV, playing billiards, bowling, board games, and cheering on my favorite sports teams. Those moments remind me that life isn’t measured only by accomplishments but by the relationships we build and the memories we create together.

Sports have shaped much of who I am. Growing up as the only daughter between two brothers taught me determination, resilience, and teamwork. I competed in track and field throughout high school, setting several school records while learning discipline and perseverance. Later, I was blessed to play cornerback for the Columbus Comets during the inaugural season of the National Women’s Football Association. Football taught me that setbacks are part of life, but character is built by getting back up every single time.

Through every season, my faith has remained my greatest source of strength.

One of the most meaningful parts of my life is honoring God’s Sabbath each Saturday—a day set aside for worship, rest, gratitude, and reconnecting with Him and the people I love. My personal motto, “The 7th Day is The Way,” reflects my commitment to following God’s Word as I understand it through my own Bible study. While my beliefs are deeply personal, I will always respect the religious freedom of others because true love is never forced—it is freely given and freely chosen.

My love for food has always gone far beyond recipes.

I’ve always believed there’s something special about gathering around a table. Meals have a remarkable way of breaking down barriers, creating conversations, strengthening families, welcoming strangers, and building lifelong friendships. Some of life’s greatest blessings happen over a shared meal.

That belief became the inspiration for Gr8 Buckeye Food.

This isn’t simply a food blog.

It isn’t only a collection of recipes.

It isn’t just restaurant reviews.

It’s a place where food becomes a bridge that connects people.

Here you’ll find budget-friendly recipes, comforting family favorites, Ohio restaurant discoveries, cooking inspiration, and stories that celebrate the joy of sharing a meal. But you’ll also find encouragement, devotionals, Bible verses, and conversations that nourish something even deeper.

I believe food can nourish the heart through fellowship, the mind through learning, the body through wholesome meals, and the soul through God’s Word. As Jesus said in John 6:35, “I am the bread of life.” Physical food sustains us, but spiritual food transforms us. Both are gifts from God, and both have the power to bring people together.

My prayer is that every recipe you cook, every restaurant you visit, every story you read, and every devotional you encounter here reminds you that the sweetest ingredient in every meal is God’s love.

Whether you’re here for comforting recipes, Ohio food adventures, family traditions, or words of encouragement, I hope you feel welcomed like family from the very first visit.
